LH Sidecase Replaced

Postby alans1100 » 17 Nov 2014, 10:12

After something like 8 years when my 1100 had a minor argument with a small roo the LH side case has been replaced.

I bought it off of Shaun a few weeks ago and fitted it today. In the process I had to swap the locks over so I could still use my key. The rear lock has been out of action for God knows how long so after removing the tumbler piece I found something had fallen into the keyway (probably that little bit that covers the keyhole) which I removed.

Now I have two locks that work but only on my spare key. My normal key was worn so much (wouldn't lock steering) that I could pull it out of the ignition and still have the bike running (came in handy at night) so I need to order some new keys ASAP.

I removed the red reflectors from the RH case which were only there to match the LH ones which were hiding a crack on the case. The black/white (tail brites ???) one that was on the one from Shaun's was also removed. Next up is to either remove the studs from the LH case or find some for the RH case so I can use the covers that came with the new case.

Very interesting, Alan... what does the cover look like that apparently snaps onto that saddlebag lid? A home-made farkle, or an aftermarket product? TIA

Regards, John

Alan/John. I was wondering the same thing, must be aftermarket though - never seen anything like it.

Then again, why would you want to cover up some of the colourful beauty of your bike? :?

Since the TB is supposed to mount from LHS: a heavy duty scuff-pad, laminated tactical Dyneema... 8-)

I don't really want to but at the moment putting the studs on the other side is easier than removing the ones on the LH one and filling in the holes and getting the paint to match......plus they would protect the cases as after having her broken LH leg and RH knee replacement finds it a little difficult mounting the bike.

I haven't seen them before either but they look like they're made out of fake leather or vinyl that has that foam backing and they look home made or made to order at a upholstery shop. I would have at least had them painted blue which I might yet do.

Well I'll be darned! That's a first. Very nicely done!! Would probably be cheaper than repainting my scratched and gouged left saddlebag. Wonder if he'd take an order...(?)

The case came off an 1100AY (2000) which the owner had an accident. Cost of repair was to expensive so bike was written off. At $AUD130 for a good case in the same colour as mine was a bargain. Shaun, who I bought the case from didn't know where I could get the studs from for the other side so they must have come with the bike when he bought it.

So I'd suspected correctly... ;)
But now you guys will need a pirate's costume to comply with the HD-aura emitted ;)

I'd only worry about collected water and dust underneath...
And possible rust build-up in those snap-rivets... (I assume their properly sealed from the inside?)
