Nitron shocker!

Postby Cammy ST11 » 19 Apr 2013, 19:06

Hi. New shock arrived from Nitron and looked like a good bit of kit. Was a bit worried about the width of the upper collar as Paul Lingaurd had commented that his had to be filed down to make it fit. No such problems with the width with mine.
However, the upper neck does not appear to be long enough to allow the mounting to 'centre' with the bolt hole as it fouls on the fairing. So disappointed with this as the bike was going back together really well. I am now awaiting a reply from the company.
Now faced with the prospect of using the old one or taking up the offer from Jim Graham (shrekster) to borrow his spare.

Surely it can't be that hard for a company to get an OEM shock and build one to the same dimensions so it just bolts in.

David. I had thought of that. But the bushes are placed in the unit to go this way up (they are slightly different sizes). Whilst the will come out and can be changed, I want to hear back from the firm. Shrekster bought a Nitron - hopefully he can give me an answer to that one. Cheers

Excuse the word slightly... (topside is a 10mm bore, bottom 14mm... just measured the OEM shock I happen to have in the shelf here...)

Can the top shackle be unscrewed from the base (maybe fixed with a thin locknut), so it's height is adjustable?
Wilbers uses this design and they do come properly adjusted to fit.

Sorry Martin, I was talking about the width of the collars. It is height/length adjustable but at what appears to be the bottom end. Frustrating as it is, the bike is back up and running with the old shock for now. I am hoping to hear from Nitron on Monday - I will be calling them at 10am if they have not contacted me. I will keep you all posted. Cheers.

Agreed, if that new shock can not be fitted easily (like unscrewing/adjusting the top mount as described) its an instant claim/return to the MFG... also I would not start to F around there, the thing is not that cheap thus its their responsibility to come up with proper fitment...

Martin. The inserts at both ends are interchangable, thus giving the correct diameter hole. I suspect that the factory have, as David pointed out, built it upside down. In which case it will be on the bike asap. On the plus side it is a really nice bit of kit.

From the pictures, I would think that the spring adjuster ring should be on the bottom, so having it the other way round appears correct to me.
