22-03-2018 Gauge Light Gremlin.

Postby alans1100 » 22 Mar 2018, 13:18

Having just gone through replacing a headlight terminal/plug and the clock light I now find the gauge lights have a gremlin.

Coming back from Adelaide just over a week ago I noticed the dash lights fail to light up. Not to concerned at the time as the TomTom gives speed indication to keep me from funding something towards our state budget.

Tail light was working ok so that blew the blown fuse idea out of the water. The last time I rode at night it did seem that one globe had blown and one of the reasons I was looking at getting the blue LED light upgrade which at around $40 for four globes seemed a little over the top; I ordered 4 OEM ones instead and they'll get here next week (hopefully).

To make this more interesting the tacho lights came on when about half way home. After it got dark earlier this evening I tried the lights again and nothing on the dash. I checked the fuse and tail lights again and all ok so it's behind the dash somewhere. Apart from swapping the clock globe and just seeing what sort of light went into the gauges nothing else was touched.

I have a few weeks to check it out before the Glendambo FarRide but in the mean time; has anyone else had a similar issue?

When I got my dash lights swapped out some time back (knew had at least one blown and another was dimmer than it should have been), mechanic had offered to do only blown one but I said to do them all as it made more sense. As it was when he checked the ones still working properly, another one was only half lighting up and he could only assume it was on its way out and probably would have blown anyway. As is, three years later they are all still working but a tad dimmer than they should be (I think) so maybe time to get them done again :)

The parts I ordered from Partzilla from this topic viewtopic.php?f=8&t=14741&p=190180#p190180 arrived yesterday and when the globes arrive I can fit all at the same time.

Still puzzling as to why just the 4 gauge lights - only one of which is visible

You can read all about it here http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=12649.new#new

All four gauge lights replaced and all 4 old ones were blown.

Common that they fail within a couple of days/weeks...
Which is why I suggest that if one goes, replace all 4 by default while aready at it/dive in there...
