The TomTom map is fairly good and you can transfer routes and places fairly easily. The map also has the route options you have as well so I can transfer that to my Go 600 but you can't exceed 500km total for the route.

You can also save a route and download it as a GPX file and share with others and in theory import a GPX file as well. I've tried converting a KML (Google Earth) to a GPX but have never been able to get it transferred over though it does show up on map.

The right hand side of the screen has a more detailed view of the route for about 60km ahead and it shows upcoming POIs that you might want (e.g. fuel stops or rest areas) and the distance to them

Would that be Tyre to travel as I have seen it mentioned before as an alternative to Garmins offering?

The app I was referring to is called MyRouteapp Gold, www.myrouteapp.com/go.
There is a free version but according to Mr. GPS the gold version is well worth the money. That is, if you're into preplanning your rides.

I haven't looked at it yet.

Made some time to give MyRouteApp Gold a test drive. In one word, I'm impressed. "Well worth the money" is an understatement.
Whether you have a TomTom or a Garmin, I can recommend this tool. Lots of options and much more intuitive than the hated Garmin Basecamp or Google Maps. I've never looked at Tyre so can't comment on that.

I also completed the video course by Mr. GPS. If you understand Dutch you may consider it, he gives a whole lot of very practical tips and demonstrates them in the videos.
Biggest takeaway for me is that if you preplan a route and don't want the satnav to recalculate it when it's loaded, do not export it as a route but export it as a track. This obviously assumes your satnav can work with tracks.

I downloaded the Tyre program and I should be able to send a route direct to my TomTom but I got a "File Access Denied" message when I tried to do it. Got rid of the thing.

I'll check out myrouteapp gold. I've got on okay with Basecamp but it requires effort and I don't use it enough to remember all the tricks. A better UI would be welcome.

I got the Tyre program for free with the new Rider 450 as well.

Managed to work out how to make up a route and save it but failed to get it sent to the device even after I added the info needed.

Might play around with it but I doubt if I'd use it that much.
