Photobucket Takes Your Images Hostage

Postby alans1100 » 02 Jul 2017, 04:36

I made this post yesterday about Photobucket. http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=12055 ... msg1222270 Anyone should be able view this. I also sent Pieter a PM about this as well.

This will effect some of us here; especially those who use the IMG code to link pictures onto this and other forums. They now want to charge us $US39.99 a month or $US399 a year to do this.

Several other news sites confirming this

As for the pictures I've posted on here in the past I'll either update or upload on an as needed basis.

I have no issue with uploading, in fact it is my preference because it will guarantee that the pictures will remain available until in the far future. And our sponsor is not shy about disk space.

It's also one of the reasons I never use sites like Photobucket.

Just read confirmation of Alan's story on Dutch Computerworld website.
They say Photobucket wasn't very popular and was given the nickname "Photo 'this image has been moved or deleted' bucket".

Edit: They list a number of alternatives for Photobucket. You may want to take a look at these.
  1. Imgur
  2. TinyPic
  3. MobyPicture
  4. Flickr
  5. Free Image Hosting - https://ctrlq.org/images/
  6. PostImage - https://postimage.io
  7. ImgBB - https://imgbb.com

Imgur is by far the most popular.

Happily it looks like I have never had a photobucket account.

For any future ride reports I'll just go to my blog site and then just post the link to it. Might even do the same for some "how to" stuff as well.

This is just a tryout and I chose a picture of Heather's youngest daughter sitting on my CX500 Turbo that I used to own in the early 1990's.

Adding pics to this forum works a little different to Ozstoc as on there anything uploaded directly gets placed at the bottom of the page and it can't be previewed. It's ok for some things but sometimes a picture is best placed with the related text; IMG code is needed for that.
