Headsets charging

Postby Pieter Huizinga » 09 Nov 2015, 22:05

Karen's and my headsets have been on the charger since BritSToc15.
I was wondering if it wouldn't be better to take them off, and charge them when we plan to go for a ride instead.
Any opinions, advice?

Sorry this is not about oil or tires.

I only charge my scala headsets the night before I use them, I have never had the urge to keep them charged , batteries I'm sure have a limited number of charges/discharges and while I'm sure you will never reach that amount and unless they are fully discharged prior to charging they may take less and less charge over time and not last as long in use.

I concur with Critters, I only charge my headset the day before, and some times the night before using it (2 helmets) depending on which helmet and which bike I'm using.

I generally charge ours the night before we need to use them but the manual that came with them stated to charge them at least once a month if not being used.

It is not good to leave these batteries in a heavily discharged state and if you do they will soon lose performance or fail. There is also a lot of advice out there to not leave them in a fully charged state for protracted periods. It is difficult to reduce them to a storage charge level such as RC enthusiasts do to maintain battery health.

A good compromise is to fully charge them and then once in a while turn them on to run down and re charge them again. It helps keep them in condition.
