Postby Andi Archer » 02 Oct 2015, 23:18

Hi All can anybody recommend a good vehicle tracker that allow free live internet tracking [not the pay per access type] with a reasonable yearly fee?
Something like http://www.biketrac.co.uk/
Thanks

I know someone that has one of these and it tracks his bike rides and bike I suppose if its stolen. There is a hard wire kit available so you don't have to rely on the internal battery, a PAYG sim card is the only constant outlay needed.

But they also mention: "...with free 1 year subscription to our own UK based live tracking server..."
So additional fees will hit after 12 months...

You might contact AA or your vehicle insurer if they offer/include similar services in their coverage?

Thanks for the responses guys.I would have gone for the one I mentioned but their links to installers seem to lead to closed websites or places that dont even mention the service on their websites, not a good way to do business.
Yea I can get one from tinternet to install myself but I was after a Thatcham approved 5 or 6 device. Many I can find dont include access to route tracking only tracker placement and alerts if stolen etc.Oh and the network providers are not daft they know when you install a sim in a such a device then tend to close your account for inappropriate use in the UK.
Oxford have released this portable unit but I was after something that provided a better service

My Garmin 390 sat nav on my bike continually monitors my route to be downloaded later but no one can access this remotely in a "real time" scenario, a bit like the IOS and android apps available for folk that monitor fitness.

I have emailed the supplier of the link to see what subscription costs after the 12 months are and I'm sure you would be able to fit it yourself.

If you carry your android mobile with you its possible to look up routing [historical too] using the Google tracking system by logging into your account

Seems reasonable priced...

Will the authorities accept the "owner information" for pursuing a stolen vehicle??

If I was the cop and was asked to act on the information I would ask to get the access password so I could follow its movements and act on it, if I was the owner and had my bike stolen I would hand over the login details so they could follow it.

The only issue I see is if it was a sportsbike and it had been thrown in the back of a van the GPS would not be activated as the ignition was off, if it was wired live all the time battery drain would be an issue I suppose.

There are GPS/GSM/RF devices with built in long life battery packs that overcome i.e. being in buildings or containers but they are a lot dearer.
Im just wondering what you getting for the £10/year as its the owners sim card [and monthly bill] so what are they providing given its just providing mapping coordinates via bing/google mapping ?
