Win7 Microsoft update recall...

Postby mbrST1100 » 06 Sep 2014, 14:10

I normally don't give much on those "exaggerated news", but since this time even my machine (Win7pro_64) acted up (random GPU seizures...), I took the suggested countermeasures:

The following update KBs, rolled out August 12th 2014, are suspected to cause applications and/or OS to hang, some machines might even suffer BSOD:

KB2982791 (safety relevant)
and the optional
KB2970228
KB2975719
KB2975331

If you experience issues it could be advisable to de-install mentioned KBs through your system tray:
start > System > Programs and Functions > show installed Updates > etc...

Might depend on the OS language though...
Some of them are [fonts *.dll support] related (like support for Russian/Cyrillic fonts), thus suspicious of being language/area related...

A got quite annoyed by GPU seizures the past few days...
I stepped back and forth with GPU driver versions (after which I finally got a MS-version offered in the updates), and also took above measures...
Currently the notebook runs flawless again, but I can't tell 100% if it was the NVidia driver or the KB issue... and I'm also not in the mood for a rollback to see what exactly is the culprit ;)
