Can't a free Google calendar or such be added to the website and used for this?

I followed the recommendation in another topic and created an "Upcoming events" forum under Rides & RTEs.

I am considering removing the "Upcoming events" forum again, as nobody appears to use it.
Your thoughts please.

As there have been no reactions at all, I have now removed the "Upcoming events" forum and its subforums.
What looked like a good idea, turned out to be not needed. Oh well.

Shouldn't the Britstoc (or similar) and related posts been put in there or any other bike related fund raising type ride.

Alan, for reasons only vaguely clear to the board founders, "BritSToc" has had its own main forum on the index page since the board's inception. :)

Any other organised bike rides can and should preferably be posted in "Rides & RTEs", of which "Upcoming events" was merely a subforum. The idea was that it would facilitate a quick view of upcoming events, but in practice almost nobody used it anymore, and consequently the number of page views has been zero for a considerable time. (Incidentally, no events were lost upon deleting "Upcoming events" as there were only events in the past which would have been deleted anyway with regular maintenance).

I've been looking for something like an event calendar for phpBB for a long time, but there does not appear to be one. And I certainly don't have the time and the skills required to write one myself, and to support it in the phpBB community.

Using Google Calendar has several severe disadvantages (to name just three: the board's admins must separately invite each new member to share the calendar, each member must have a Google user id to access the calendar, and you would have to leave the board to access the calendar), so I don't see that happening in the foreseeable future. Unless somebody finds a way to integrate it with phpBB which would be awesome of course.
