Suggestions to increase visitors and membership

Postby Pieter Huizinga » 15 Mar 2013, 19:18

We seem to be sort of stuck for some time now at 70-ish members. And a lot of them don't visit often. Some even visit never despite automatic "miss you" mails being sent to them.

And even though all sorts of bots and crawlers from Google, Baidu, and who not, are visiting the forum all the time, our Google ranking is not what I'd expect it to be after more than 2 months. We only appear to show up in searches if you know that the name starts with my-mc.

Despite vigorous debates, actual orders of merchandise also remain stuck in single numbers.

This and other reflections cause Keith and I to hesitantly wonder if we are overlooking something obvious. Mind you, we are not disappointed or hellbent chasing more popularity for the board. If 70 members - of which, say, 30 are active - is the top, than that's it. And as for the ranking, we know that that will take much more time. Offering merchandise seems simply not feasible considering the demand.

We know we can't please everybody all of the time, or even some of the time. We're pretty happy with what we have achieved - all of you included - so far. We are not looking to compete with other m/c boards. But I just wanted to pick your brains. Perhaps - hopefully - you have thoughts or ideas that we haven't even considered.

Your opinion and advice will be highly appreciated.
Not that we'll necessarily agree. ;)

Give it some time. It is, like you said, brand new. As riding season quickly approaches, more ST motorcycle content will be posted to get more attention. I have a big ST restoration project coming up and will share as soon as the weather breaks. STill snowing here off and on. Hang in there!

It was decided not to be a one marque forum. There is no Pan Club to this forum. So should we be looking at that list Forest?
Content on this forum is more social than motorcycle. Maybe that should be pushed more.

Quite right Paul that the forum is more social than m/c .. .. .. right now, but I don't think the intent here is to be ONLY social, is it? We do have two bike specific sections, the ST1100 and 1300, plus the "Other makes" section where we have had some tech questions and advice given and if someone out there is looking for that, why not list us in areas that might bring them here to poke their heads in? Even if we aren't striving to be a one marque forum, I believe the reality is, with the exception of Pieter, that all our members so far are ST owners.

I agree with Forest.... If the original intent is, or was, to be a social outlet, I will pass.... I'm STill in Bacon Butty status for a reason...

Thanks Adam. There was no other intent than to get the friendly folks back together who used to frequent my-mc.com.
IMHO it's up to the members to provide the sort of content they appreciate most. I wouldn't have a clue how we could possibly "direct" (or "push") that.

And Adam, you just turned Double Bacon Butty ;)
