Coupon dropdown virus

Coupon dropdown virus

Postby Forest 1100 » 11 Feb 2013, 17:24

How come some words in posts, like "dating site" in Paul's post above - maybe it will happen again now - are linked to wee ads that pop up when you put your cursor over them?? I noticed that on a post of mine (Martian object thread) when I used the word fly, in talking about an asteroid. I changed the word to "zoom" when I noticed the little linky popping up in the preview pane.

It didn't happen that time?? Are others seeing this on their screens?

Hi Andi,

I thought it might be related to cookies, so I went there and deleted a whole bunch that appeared ad related, with no effect. Where did you find that 1 Click Downloader?

Had that problem before turned out to be oneclick. I found some stuff an the net with ways to get rid and it's gone but sorry I can't remember what the program was I used. I have adblocker running and that seems to help too...in fact was it adblocker that killed oneclick???

I amended my post above but basically its installed by an add on in Firefox [see above].Theres a whole list of info on Google related to removing it in different browsers just search for CouponDropDown removal i.e. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-r ... ondropdown .All I did was disable them all then turn then on a few at a time with this page loaded as it had a link in Pauls post which showed its presence or not [see image in my previous post].

Thanks Andi. The URL you supplied led to a PC only site, with no help for Macs, but then I googled Coupon Drop Down for Macs and found a very helpful page, which led to success in deleting the unwanted extensions.

For any Mac users here that want to fix this, go here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/45 ... 0&tstart=0

Glad its sorted as it seems a sneaky way to get ads onto a system.
