Getting the lazy and feckless back to work.

Postby Keith Legge » 17 Feb 2013, 19:27

Yep ME  next month i have to go to a "work focused interview" which could last up to an hour.
So i rang them to explain my circumstances (they already know) but i was told i had to go otherwise i will lose my benefits.
The Jobcentre are now going to pay for an agency carer to come and look after the wife while i go to this interview.

Anyway i asked the lady if she gets me a job (fat chance) what do i do with the wife? "we'll cross that bridge when we come to it".

Some background i'm not really feckless the wife has Mutiple Sclerosis is bed bound double incontinent is nil by mouth (fed through a tube in her stomach) and has bouts of choking because she can't swallow i have to use a suction machine like at the dentist.

They know all of this and still want me to go.

hmm... but without knowing what you want, hard to determine if sending 'good luck!' is in order or not...

Well, someone has to raise the taxes necessary to tend to the needs of immigrants.
It's about time you put in some work too. :lazy: :well:

I never thought I'd say this but I hope you don't get the job.

What theyll probably do is offer you money to pay for home care whilst you go out and get a [non-existent ] part time job. Thus two jobs magically created......Oh the lunacy of Politics

My dad before he reached pension age was in a similar situation to yours except out here we have a carers pension for people who need to give full time care to their partners and maybe other family members as well.

On the other side of this work thing, I want to work (not fussed either way) but it seems I'm to old at 57 to be employable. Every labour hire firm I've been to say "yes you have job skills that we need, but not yet......we'll get back to you".........they never do.

Federal govt has released incentives for companies to get older Australians back in the work force..........it won't work.

From leaving school and the wife becoming ill i only had 6 months of unemployment i always worked and payed my way and would still be working know if i could.
I was faced with a choice put the wife in care and rely on strangers to look after her (see all the scandals in our care homes) or look after her myself.

The benefits for a carer are pitiful i live off the wifes benefits which are excellent.

I have no problem with the interview its all the bureaucracy, form filling and box ticking that gets up my nose.
