Shoei Neotec

Postby David Monteath » 26 Jan 2013, 22:12

I am considering spending a bit of money a buying a new helmet, the one I use now is 4 years old and getting tatty......it's also noisier with the visor down than up!

I'm considering a Schuberth or maybe for variation a Nolan, but I quite fancy one that I can open.

I'm really looking for recommendations and experience of flip fronts.

I thought about a Neotec, but the cost even more than a Schuberth.....nice looking though.

I have a Schubert and a BMW 5 (made by Schuberth if I recall correctly). The BMW is way better but awfully expensive at 600 euros or so. I bought it when it was on sale, made 100 difference.

Tried Schuberth, almost painfull fit on the scull, face shield too close, like hitting chin while closing, requiring both hands there.
Nolan and Caberg, painfull pressure areas on scull due some ribs sticking out padding/cushion...

And Shoei also stands out with the best material/crafting quality...

But at the baseline the maker doesn't matter, important is best fit on the individual head.

Probably get slated for this - but- I bought a German helmet from Lidl last Summer. About £45 meets all German safety standards, comfy, had no problem with it. Visor, chin open. 2 sets of vents etc.

If it fits and has the necessary safety stickers who cares how much it cost? ;)

Had a Bell full face decades ago but never cared for the full face helmets. Might as well be in a car is what it feels like to me. Always used three quarter style and my last two have been Arai helmets. They have a design that brings the lower chin portion forward to provide better protection. I find they fit my noggin great. Quiet too. Don't know if they make a flip front style.

Basically right, but once in the rain or other odd conditions you'll find the flaws...

Had plenty of them over the years no more flaws than more expensive ones price does not guarantee quality.
