Wanted, 1300 Right heated Grip.

Wanted, 1300 Right heated Grip.

Postby Critters » 26 Apr 2016, 21:46

Long shot I know but I am looking for a right hand heated grip for my 1300 and they are currently now a discontinued part. They are not even available from DSS.

If this does not work I may have to fit something else and that will mean leaving the original controller to fill the hole in the fairing. One of Hondas weird moves when the 1100 rotary switch worked really well.

Thanks in anticipation
Brian

Brian I moved this topic to the Buying forum.
Now considering if we should rename the forum to Wanted. :)

Thanks Pieter, I am willing to actually buy one if I can find one if that counts ;)

You may have to get the Oxford ones that a lot of guys over here use. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/171086478190 ... EBIDX%3AIT

Thanks Alan, I have actually found a new OEM set, brand new grips in a packet and as I type are winging its way from a guy in England, he bought them as spares and never used them and sold his bike so am lucky on this occasion.

I have been in dialogue with the local Honda dealer and it appears that if I was to buy a new 1300 they have two options to fit heated grips to a new bike, one is an Oxford set and the other is the Honda grips with the controller fitted to a collar on the left handlebar. Either way If I hadn't sourced these I was heading down one of these routes.

I did find somewhere that there is an option that might have worked, an original honda grip and was only £18 new, I may buy one just to try it as the new honda grip set was going to be around £350 supplied and that does not include the fairing part filling in the original hole in the panel on the left fairing.

Symtec Grip Heaters on this side of the pond are about 45-50 USD. Includes a high/low switch. I have them on all three of my ST1100s with ROJEN grips over them.

The guy that does work to my bike had a trawl on eBay and found these, as you can see the controller is very similar to the old ST1100 grip heater controllers, the only issue that I can see is that the grip ends are closed off but I am sure a sharp knife could open up the ends so that they would fit onto a bike.

Brian - An easy way to 'open' the grip end is to find a bit of plumbing pipe of the approximate size of the handlebars (just a little smaller in diameter), grind a sharp edge on one end, put it into the grip, place the grip end on a solid surface and give the other end of the pipe a good whack. This cuts the end of the grip out with almost factory precision. The grips I get for ST1100s are 'closed end' so I do this whenever I need to replace one.

Phil that is a great idea, I am sorted just now but if I do need to do this I will bear this in mind.
