Future of my-mc

Postby Pieter Huizinga » 25 May 2017, 18:18

Dear friends and members,

It would appear that this site has become obsolete. We hardly get any traffic anymore, except from robots, and the number of member posts is down to virtually zero. It seems that our regular members are meeting on facebook, rather than here. And none of my fellow moderators have logged in for months. I feel like I'm pulling on a dead horse. Alone. I regret, I have other things to do. I feel like I'm wasting my time.

I am inclined to call it a day and shut it down. It is obvious I can't compete with facebook, nor do I want to. I hate facebook. I'm probably the last person on earth who cancelled his facebook account because all it brought me was disgust. But to each his own.

Your thoughts please before I turn it off. I'd hate to see the treasure of knowledge accumulated here go down, but frankly there apparently isn't much interest for it, or so it would seem.

The phoenix appears to have burned.

Best regards --Pieter

Yeah sadly FB has put paid to a lot of the old forums :(

But its places like this that have all those little hints n tips, that aren't anywhere else, so it would be a shame if it went away. I still pop in almost daily, same as I do to another couple of Pan websites (am an admin on one) that have even less traffic than this one, but if you needed to know how to strip/rebuild an ST1100 (with pics) you wont find that on FB ;)

Suppose the bottom line is you have to think about yourself, life etc, oh and your wallet

I still drop in 6 out 7 days a week and post sometimes but little to no traffic otherwise.

The mods over at Ozstoc post our RTEs on Facebook and we have gained members that way as well. We do have a twitter page but it hasn't been updated for years and I have put my hand up to update it if they don't shut it down but so far no action either way.

I suppose if this does shut down then anyone on here is welcome over at Ozstoc.

I like this quiet corner away from the FB madness.

I'm with Gareth. I don't spend much time on Farcebook so I'd hate to see it go. I check this site several times a day, btw. And I do appreciate all you've done with it!

Don't despair Pieter...
FB is quick, dirty, superficial, full of (fake) egos, technically inadequate information/statements and... convenient...
If I'd want exchange of some serious kind, I go to places like this...

OTOH are all my local, German spoken friends, acquaintances, co-workers or business partners simply excluded from my-phoenix...
No one will sub to an English spoken forum only over me attending here...
I'm already an alien due my bilingual appearance, that I've more "friends" abroad just adds to this strange image of mine...

(And I'm still on a learning curve with this Tapatalk thing... )

sorry to read this, i'm one of those guy's that checks this site on a daily base, and i agree their is not that match going on lately. As i'm not a technical guy, i would only miss reaching out. On the other hand i'm "friends" on FB with most of you guy's (sorry Pieter)

off course keeping this alive is costing Pieter time and money, so i do understand. @ the end it's up to you Pieter! Do know we always have appreciated all time and effort you have put in this, and i would suggest that we all send you a bottle of JD, just to show our appreciation.....
