The practice continues today on HAM radio. CB operators tend to use them too, but only a very small subset.

I knew some of the CB ones but that was a long time ago

Pieter and all,

If that post to be deleted (by a moderator) happens to be the first in a thread, do you know if that whole thread will be deleted, or just that first post in it?

CB radio. AM days. Illegal in the early 80's. Oh what fun. One Four for a copy.

Thanks for the mention of CB Radio, but AFAIK, I need to try to get an answer concerning how to delete posts here.

If it's the ONLY post in that thread it will most likely delete the thread. But I never tried it. As you know I'm not very much into deleting user posts. You'd have to get me really, really angry first before I would ever consider that.

I'm (occasionally) on a hifi forum where it works that way:
Your the opener of a thread, responses accumulate, but if you as the OP delete your opening/start message, the whole thread goes poof...

I have posted an entire test thread to see if it works the same way here. That thread is called:

Test Thread: Does it get deleted if only its first post is?

I am asking that Pieter, Keith L or a moderator delete the first post (and only the first post) of that thread to see whether or not that entire test thread gets deleted.

If you perform the test, please follow up by posting here about what happened. (As the OP of that thread, I cannot delete my own first post because it has been responded to, as discussed above.)

Pieter did the test and found that only the first post of the test thread was deleted. So a moderator must delete each post in a thread to delete the thread (or must discover a different command for thread deletion).

Thanks, Pieter and all.

Oh, the moderator can delete a topic. No problem. It's not our policy though.
