Subscription settings?

Postby WJBertrand » 24 Feb 2014, 19:34

I've suddenly started receiving email notifications whenever someone replies to a thread I've posted in. I can open that thread and then select unsubscribe at the bottom of the page but it starts again with the next reply I make to another post. Is there a global setting somewhere where I can select not to subscribe to any posts?

I went to the manage subscriptions page but it says I have no subscriptions, yet I am receiving the emails anyway :?

Might have to learn to live with it Jeff! I am still plagued by the ongoing occasional problem of the site not recognizing me, making me enter log in data some days, but not others. Not a reflection on Keith or Pieter's work here, but I assume some undiscovered glitch in our free web site's software.

Might be cookie related on both occasions

Can't see a cookie relationship, as this is the only web site that does this to me and my settings are enabled for cookies.

Me neither, I get the emails on my phone even when I'm not on-line with any browser.

Jeff,

First, please check your setting for default notification upon replies in your User Control Panel:

2014-02-25_09h31_50.jpg (28.9 KiB) Viewed 14828 times

Make sure it is set to No. If it is already set to No (I think Keith has done this for you) it may be an idea to set it to Yes, save, and set it to No and save again, just to be certain.
(This is a per user setting in the board's database, it is not a cookie).

Then, make sure that the checkbox at the bottom of a forum topic it says "Subscribe topic" (if it says "Unsubscribe topic" you have subscribed to the topic).
You may then also want to check the similar checkbox on a forum's index page, it should say "Subscribe forum".
(Again these are personal settings per forum/topic in the database, not cookies).

That should fix your "problem".

Forest,

As I explained elsewhere, the automatic login *is* a cookie that unwantedly may expire. I am experiencing similar behaviour on and off. There really isn't much I can do about it. Sorry for that. You could clear your cookies but the cure would likely be worse than the disease...

Thanks Pieter, It was off when I checked it just now and I believe before as well. I went ahead and squirted some computer safe contact cleaner in there and toggled it on and off a few times :), hopefully that will do it. Seems to be working now though as I did not receive an email notification this time when you posted
