Croatia - New Video added

Postby Ali in Austria » 30 Jun 2014, 15:37

Took a small group of guests down to Croatia and paid a visit to The Plitvice National Park. Unfortunately we didn't allow enough time to visit The Veliki Slap Waterfall (minimum 3.5 hours from Car Park 2). Park in Car Park 1 to be closer.

Our walk took just over 2 hours including boat trip and Road Train, both of which are included in the €15,- entry fee. Bike parking is free.

Edit: FTFY.

On route we rode The D8 from Starigrad Paklenica to Karlobag. Beautiful but many speed restrictions and solid white lines. Frequent diesel and oil spills on bends would make it interesting in the wet.

Nice video.

To embed in your post like Im guessing somebody has done for you.
1. Click on "video" just above the window you would be typing in which would then give you this - [video][/video]
2. Copy and paste the youtube URL, which would then give you (I have deleted the square brackets so as not to insert the link here) - video]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4nrwx_otMw[/video

I see David has beaten me to it.

The new BBcode recently was explained here: New BBcode for video.

If I may give some more free advice, I recommend using the "View unread posts" link on the home page; if you had used that you would have seen the above new post. My guess is that is how most members follow this board. It is the easiest way (except Tapatalk perhaps).

I do use unread posts and I am sucking eggs :-)

I missed the New BB Codes. I've only just noticed that the web address when copied from my Channel when I am logged in starts https:// and I wasn't sure if that was causing the problem. Thanks anyway.

Ali,

how are riding conditions (road wise as well as traffic/behaviour/LEO issued) down there???

Did lots of business travelling by car in that area (farthest were Split and the French KFOR base in Pristina), which convinced me that I'll never go there by motorcycle... :?

You need to ride the road numbered 8 down to Zadar. Then you will have driven the best road in Europe.

The roads on the whole are pretty good with some interesting sections. The D25 and D1 approaching Plitvice had major road works where they have just dug it up and there is little warning or Traffic Control. We even had to ride through freshly tipped ballast that had yet to be graded. Made for an interesting time.

I am just finishing a video of the D8 from Starigrad, just outside of Zadar, north to Karlobag. Nice road but there are much better. Too many speed restrictions, solid white lines and diesel trails around the bends.

Did the whole coast road from Zadar north on the way back.

A few more videos to follow :)

Ali in Austria wrote:...and diesel trails around the bends.

Not only that, in many places the tarmac itself is so soft that it its slippery like a snot (even when driving a car), folks drive generally pretty/more careless, get off the shoulder thus dragging sand, mud and pebbles on the road, overloaded construction and farm vehicles/trailers spill sand, rocks, feces and whatever everywhere, etc...
And the local driving style always qualify for some raised eyebrows... maintaining the "Principle of Distrust" is highly advisable...

They do have some very nice places and scenery there, no doubt, fresh seafood at the coats, etc... but the preposterous disproportionate price increases are just a turn-off...
