Round Baltic Ride

Have a look at this route and please chime in if you have any observations. I'm just getting used to planning a route using Google Maps - I'm a bit too dim to try anything more sophisticated - and the route should link up with Hamburg. I also think a ferry from Helsinki to Tallinn is a bit more preferable that visiting St.Petersburg. Anyway what do you think?

You did not give us a link to the route Paul.

Anyway you wouldn't like it Paul, all those foreigners. I would recommend the Isle of Sheppey as a good place to go touring and much nearer to home. Your newly refurbished machine (looking very nice by the way) should be able to cope with all those UK potholes.

I love being right. If only it happened more often...

here ( I hope) is the rough route I did a few years back, St petersburg was a no no due to visa requirements for the bike being 3-4 months in the planning, otherwise a good route for about 3 weeks touring.

No, it's no good Pieter, I cannot seem to get the link to the map I want to show. The http box at the top doesn't alter whatever differnt maps is shown. Let's try it longhand -

Calais, Bremen, Hamburg, to the north of Denmark and ferry to Kristiansand, Bergen, Trondheim, Lulea (Sweden), Oulu (Finland), Helsinki, ferry to Tallinn, Riga, Vilnius, Kaliningrad (that should be interesting), Gdansk, Berlin, then home.

Paul

Have look down a little lower there is what looks like a sideways number 8. Click it and a link appears. Select the box that says shorten URL then copy and paste that link.

Hope this helps.

http://goo.gl/maps/g9968 Fingers crossed. Ah, it worked. So Peter how do I save that route so I can refer to it again? If I go to 'My Places' it lists every route and alteration I've tried. I really want to delete all of that and just keep the routes I wanted. Thanks for your help.

Paul,

How long did it take you to complete that map? Do these Google maps interface with a GPS somehow, or is it meant to be used as map on a tablet or phone? :shrug2: I don't get out much.
