France Castellane June 2013

Postby zebedeee » 17 Jun 2013, 15:55

I have just returned form Castellane in South France, and I can highly recommend the riding around there. One day around Gorge Du Verdon which was only 90 miles took me 6hrs due to all the stops I kept wanting to make to take in the sights.

I also amazed myself on the way home with doing 1220 miles in 21hrs - Castellane to Dunfermline - not a ride I would like to plan and expect to do, but I was just feeling so fresh all the way through the ride and it felt as if time just wasnt passing (or passing quickly). Must say I felt it the day after but not during the ride.

Here are a few pics

and below a view vids to try and give an impression of the views as the photos just dont seem to do them justice

VERY nice photos Dave! Are they taken with that little camera you wear around your neck? Excellent!
And it would appear the weather gods were also on your side!
Image Sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride. (Don't forget to vote! Not that it matters...)

Pieter

Most of these were with the Canon G10, great little compact camera, I dont normally have enough room when camping to carry my Canon SLR.

The small camera I think you refer to around my neck is an old Minolta Dimage E50 which I used for some of the shots of BritSToc. Its a camera that has been dropped and bashed a few times and only takes a max of 512MB SD card (so I wont be able to buy any of them any more), but it also takes very acceptable travel pics.

Weather was fantastic (didnt burn my face though) :D Great for riding, just a little too hot when stopped in all the riding gear. But the main thing for riding was it was dry.

Keith, thanks.

Martin, I was coming out of that photo so travelling South. Fantastic roads, they were either good to ride, or good for scenery, and very little mundane roads that you just used to get somewhere.

On the empty roads, did you also drive on the left (like I tend to drive on the right on empty roads in the UK)? Until an oncoming bus scared the sh*t out of you? :D

No problems whilst away because I was always concious of being on the wrong side, but now Im home I have to keep trying to remember to drive on the correct side again.....I must say I did prefer going around roundabouts that way...maybe the wrong side isnt so wrong after all.
