BritSToc 16

Postby PeterPan » 12 Nov 2015, 13:04

I think its time we went back to Scotland, it was 2006 that we last had a BritSToc in Scotland

After the excellent attendance at the event in Shipley perhaps we should stick to the just hotel idea for the next BritSToc and as such I suggest the following

I know Inverness has been mentioned and at first I liked the idea but it is a long way up, its 600 miles from this neck of the woods.

After some research I have looked at the possibility of Helensburgh which is west of Glasgow http://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/h ... lensburgh/

It does not seem to be the prettiest place in the world its near Loch Lomond where I am sure we could discover a great ride out for the Saturday it also has a travel lodge that overlooks the Sea/Estuary where we might get a good deal as this year in Shipley

I might have been there but only passing through so I don't remember it at all so a visit from someone based in Scotland might help although rumour has it that I am nearby on the 23rd December so could visit perhaps on the 22nd

If anyone has local knowledge that can suggest an even better location then please say so

It is the intention of Peter Finch and myself to also do a version of the North Coast 500 route either before or after this BritSToc

Regards

Peter

I will have to look it up but if I can find it I will make a suggestion for a very nice Hotel / B&B in the west. Could it be Argyll or something like that? I'm in the office and have no access to my photo archive here. In my memory that was a wonderful part of Scotland too. (Well you just can't go wrong in Scotland, with the exceptions of the industrial areas).
Image Sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride. (Don't forget to vote! Not that it matters...)

Hmm Helensburgh, closest large town to a very local Naval base that can get very lively at night on occasions and that's just the locals. If the fleet is having a visit then it can get very lively :o Thankfully I live within commuting distance so only ever visited the town during the week when it tended to be a bit quieter ;)

Well, how about Greenock, across the water from Helensburgh and there is a Premier Inn with parking and also a Holiday Inn Express, also with parking and my thinking is on the Saturday we could get the 30minute ferry across to Dunoon and start our ride out that way, I have done that on several occasions, 30 minute ferry trip and you are immediately in the west then we could do anything from there.

Been on that ferry and that's a simple and nice option!

Greenock - Cheap accommodation, not so easy to get to unless you travel up the west coast and you would need to rely on weather if the ferry was to be taken. I might have suggested moving a tad further north but don't know what you guys are looking at price wise for accom? Arrochar is £65~75 for a twin/double per day last weekend of August
