What flavor of English? Friction Fire - Fire started from a friction by 'rubbing' two objects together.
If the vehicle's value is covered by insurance in case of fire and it 'mysteriously' happens to catch on fire and burn up, that's a friction fire. The vehicle 'rubbed' up against the insurance policy ... Better? :D
Used to see it often in bad areas of town where old buildings were insured and then somehow burned to the ground and the owners collected on the insurance policy.

In a final attempt, I told the dealership I am prepared to contribute 2.500 euro if they take the remaining cost.
Should they not accept, the only thing left to do is consider the motorscooter a write-off. I'll miss it. It is a nice bike.

I think that ultimately the problem is a machine that has not been fully developed and 'debugged' by BMW. In the end it is like trying to fight a losing battle I suspect Pieter. Now, would that roof fit a Honda ST1300.....?
I love being right. If only it happened more often...

You may have a point there, Derek.
But I also had the bad luck to buy it from a person who obviously never maintained it, I don't know enough about motorcycles to judge that, and I ended up on the proverbial creek without the proverbial rowing instrument.

Shit happens. I'll just have to await what they come back with.

Well, it's over and out, folks. Said goodbye to the C1 this afternoon and took the loss.
As it turned out, the cabling had been burned by boosting it with an empty battery. To fix that, the entire cabling would havd to be renewed.
To add insult to injury, there is a crack in the crankcase which the previous owner had disguised with teflon coating. When they wanted to change the oil, the crack started leaking again.

All in all, it would cost 4,700 euro to get it back in acceptable condition. My limit was at 2,500. Remeber I only paid 2,000 for it and already had repairs to the tune of 1,000.

Karen and I said goodbye to it. It was a brief ceremony.

A melon. I guess everyone has a right to buy one in his lifetime.

The dealer offered me free appraisal if I find another one. They also absorbed their cost of going over the scooter. And they're going to refund me the parts they already put in that can be recuperated, like the battery. And they're going to sell it for parts on my behalf.

The seller must have known about all this. I should have known better than to buy a bike from a North African. But it is no use going to court for 2,000 euro. So I'll send him a nasty email and that's it.
