Got good news this week from the dealership.
And BAD news.

The good news it is ready for the road again. I could use it if it wasn't for the bad news.

The bad news is that there are two BIG new problems.
  • There is oil leaking due to a small crack in the crankcase
This was probably caused when they had to exercise brute force to get the oil filler cap off (which the previous owner had glued on. Really? Really.)
  • There is an electrical problem that wasn't there earlier
There must be a short somewhere. The headlight only works when the engine is off. And the engine won't turn off till you engage the brake.

Replacing the crankcase is expensive enough already. The cabling issue could result in having to replace the entire cabling boom, if they can't locate the short circuit. I don't even want to think about that.

All in all I'm looking at some 2.000 euro instead of the estimated 700. :| :| :|

I'm still considering. If I retire it I'll have to spend a similar amount on another one, and I'll just have to await what surprises that one would bring. The BMW mechanic swears it is worth it, as overall it further is in pretty good condition. If you don't count the scratches.

Food for thought... :|

I will attempt to negotiate that. I'm willing to cover half the cost if they take the other half.

Would be my thoughts too, if they knew what they were doing they would have known how to take off the filter without damaging the case, as for the electrics, they have obviously caused that

Because that is not at all constructive.
I'm just trying to make the best of an ugly situation.
It's gonna cost me money either way, raising my voice is not going to change that.

That's wisdom there, my friend! Hope you can get that thing sorted out. Back home, we'd say you need a friction fire - when the vehicle rubs up against the insurance policy ... :D

Thanks Phil, but neither Karen nor me is getting it. And she's from Texas. Speak English! :)

To add to the confusion: does your country have a vehicle "Lemon Law"? Sounds like yours would qualify...
