C14 owners opinions

I would like some opinions about the Concours C14 if anyone here has one. Strenghts, weaknesses, recalls, etc. I've heard that the engine is quite reliable, but that's from C14 owners (bias maybe). I saw one at the local bike show, but there was no one around to show me specific things like how the saddlebags open, etc.

No, I'm not abandoning the ST1100, the Kawasaki would be parked next to it. The ST is part of the family.

So, any opinions?

Julien

Julian - You might check over at ST-Owners since several of the riders there have them.

Thanks Phil. I plan to do a search there and I've been on COG sites. I was thinking I would get a perspective of some from over the pond.

I test rode one three/four years ago. Wind protection not as good as I expected and the engine lacks torque at lower revs, but really flies once you wind it up. I think a decent enough bike for one-up riding.

Julien, remind me again whether your 2000 ST1100Y has ABS or not.

The Concours 14 (or 1400GTR elsewhere) Line has always had an ABS model. After (I think) 2010, it has only an ABS model.

Earlier ABS models ('08 and '09) have no linking or combining of the brakes and no TCS; later ABS ones have both.

As I have very limited respect for linking of brakes, I need your input first before continuing this post.

The ST1100Y owned by the late Julien was, I think, a standard, non-ABS model.

I repeat: the Concours 14 (or 1400GTR) Line has always had an ABS model. After the 2010 model year, it has had only an ABS model.

Earlier ABS models ('08 and '09) have no linking or combining of the brakes, and no TCS; later ABS ones have both.

I would add: So I would only be interested in a '08 or '09 ABS model, or an '08/'09/'10 non-ABS model. The lack of TCS (which is not what Kawasaki calls it) would not diminish my desire to own one of those early, ABS models.

And the lack of both ABS and TCS would not deter me from looking for a used 2010 standard model because I've already had the pleasure of owning a '95 Honda ABS model (which happened to have TCS as well).

(My source of facts is mainly in the USA; European 1400GTR models may not be as described above.)
