Harley - American Motorcycle Experience, UK

Postby Derek-Dex-French » 24 Jun 2013, 13:19

On Sunday went out for the day on imported Harley Police motorcycles. Birthday present from Angela. They are based on Road Kings with about 75,000 miles on the clock and 'retired' from the Californian police force. Nice little light-weight machines at 400kgs!
Stopped for lunch at Goodwood. We thoroughly enjoyed the day potato-potato-ing our way around Surrey and Sussex, but getting used to front footboards and predominantly using the rear brake pedal to commence braking was I think the most difficult part. Finding neutral was also something of an art, requiring a gentle tap with the foot to select it.

Derek. Looks like a good day out. But each to their own. The close up in the promo video with all parts of the bike vibrating was enough to make my mind up.
Today as all days...

Glad you had a nice day out and a very original present good for Angela.
Cant say the video does them any favours on the website though :D

I imagine there are thousands of Harley owner's wives who also love their husband's "Milwaukee vibrators", but not for the same reason. ;)

Having ridden a friend's Harley, you couldn't ever convince me to buy one.

That explains it all. No wonder they all have a smile on their faces.

Yea, they were Ponch and Jon's bikes - remember - CHiPs?

Errrr . . . . come to think of it though, those bikes were the Kawi cop bikes, weren't they?

Yeah it's been many decades since the CHP has used Harleys. Many local PDs have recently or are currently using HDs though. I would venture to guess there are hundreds of local police departments in the state. From Ponch & Jonny's Kawasakis, the CHP went to BMW and recently the Concours 14.
