Supplementary turn signals

Postby Q738Driver » 18 Apr 2016, 18:05

Hi all
With the awful weather we've been having, unable to ride, I took a bit of inspiration online & combined a few 3mm LED's & 470ohm resistors to make some supplementary turn indicators for wing mirror brackets & engine guard covers on the beaSTie.
(sorry, could only upload 3 pics at a time)

I like the ones in the mirror housing. I in fact bought some myself at least five years ago to possibly do the same.
I never got around to it. I blame my lack of soldering skills.

I was looking at fitting some indicator repeaters in my mirror housing and looked at doing some work with LED's and resistors but having looked at the hassle factor I sources a company that male led strips for household use, these have a high IP rating and are 12v DC and come in a variety of colours.

I will make a purchase at some point and see if they work, I cannot for the life of me see why they won't.

I like that especially, as Peter says, the wing mirrors. I would do the same, but a combination of a lack of skills, knowledge AND intelligence is holding me back....
I love being right. If only it happened more often...

In an event of water-breach the LED array will likely die... silently... :|
One would need to dip the whole backside in something like Sikaflex or such...

The link below is for a metre of LED 12v lightstrip.

https://www.wholesaleledlights.co.uk/1m ... umens.html

IP rating of 68 which means the strip is dust tight and protected against long periods of immersion under water.

From the strip you get 20 x 3 led strips which have tabs to have connections solded onto.

I might buy a strip and see how it goes/works out. I was going to buy green.

If it does work and anyone is interested I could split the strip into the 9 remaining pairs and split the cost, it probably would work out around the £2.50 mark.

I will give the company a call tomorrow as I have ordered kitchen lights from them before.

The entire inside was given a liberal coating of Messrs Homebase's black roof & gutter sealant, covering all. I should've taken a pic, sorry: http://www.homebase.co.uk/en/homebaseuk ... Ap8n8P8HAQ
