NEC Bike show, Birmingham, UK

Postby Derek-Dex-French » 23 Nov 2014, 20:15

Went there yesterday for the day. Interesting machinery from all sorts, including BMW, Indian and Ducati. Honda still have the ST1300 on the stand and was being sat on by a steady stream of Honda stand visitors which was pleasing to see.
I love being right. If only it happened more often...

Still a good looking bike though - but £14000 for a 12 year old design is way off the mark.

I'm a Scotsman and was looking for a discount!! Heading down to the show this Saturday but not looking to buy anything in that price bracket. Might pick up a new helmet if there are decent offers on the go.

WOW! You guys really do get hosed on the price over there. The 1300 is selling around $18,000 here in Canada.

Wow....18,000.00 CAD = 10,179.71 GBP

How much in America?

Where is the cheapest new price in the world?

We went on Monday, fairly quiet with marked decrease in exhibitors and bargains.

Sat on a few bikes with a particular interest in the new Aprilia Caponord Travel Pack, over £1,000 less than the Pan with lots of bits that are sadly missing from our aging steeds. On the downside the panniers are slightly smaller but the bike weighs in at only 220kg - according to my dubious calculations that's over 237lbs or 14 st less than the ST1300.

I've left details with Piaggo for a test ride...

Otherwise than that there's some pretty Guzzi's, the prototype of the new Africa Twin (that you can't touch or sit on) and the 'uniquely styled' Vultus. The new VFR is nice but is rather more sports than sports/tourer, although I did like the LED headlights.

Having looked around their display I honestly wonder where Honda is going, I read a quote recently that suggested Honda's new range were designed for the customers they wish they had....

$US18,230 for a 2012 model
$US16,499 for a 2010 model

I don't know about the cheapest but I think ours were the highest at about $AUD23,000 (12487.62 GBP) inc on road costs but run out price last year for about $AUD16,500 ride away (8957.97 GBP)
