ST1300 PARKING BRAKE

Postby Derek-Dex-French » 01 Oct 2013, 17:49

I have just ordered one of these parking brakes from Tony Worrell via ebay.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ST1300-Parking-Brake-/231065233894?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts_13&hash=item35cc8fa9e6
I have the A9 model ST1300 so it should fit as designed. I used to have a brake fitted to my ST1100 which was useful at times, as Tony says in his entry on ebay.
I love being right. If only it happened more often...

I don't like the idea of drilling a hole in the brake lever right there....

Is there no Middleton handbrake like you can get for an 1100? No drilling needed.

Mmmm it looks a bit heath robinson to me, would it be possible to get the leaver brake from a Honda 400A these days? now that is very tidy with an auto release when you pull the leaver, if you can get one ?

That's what the Middleton does.....releases as you squeeze the brake.

As I said, I don't know if there is one for the 1300, but it might be worth a look.

It was one of the first things I fitted to my bike and have never regretted it.

Hi Folks, just a few notes about the Pendle Parking Brake. Following the success of the 1100 design (no drilling needed) I produced 2 types for the ST1300. The 2 different types are required because of the change in lever design that took place between 2007 and 2009.
The drilled locking hole is placed in an area where the lever is in compressive stress. All destructive tests has shown that failure of the lever never occurs across the locking hole. All destructive failures occur much nearer the fulcrum of the lever. The position of failure changes dependent upon the direction of the applied destructive force.
There have not been any reported failures of a lever or the Parking Brake in over 15 years of use.

These are just a few comments from users
